Step 1

Settings > Watched Folders...

Launch Adobe® Acrobat Distiller®, select the Settings pull-down menu, scroll down and select Watched Folders…

Add Folder to Path List

The Acrobat Distiller window will include the options for watched folders. Select the Add Folder… button.

Select a Watched Folder

If you have not already created an empty watched folder, please make one now. Select the empty watched folder that you created for this process. Then click the Open button.

Select the Load Settings... Button

Your selected folder will now appear in the Path list. Next, select the Load Settings… button.

Select Your Press-Ready PDF Settings

The Select Adobe PDF Settings dialog box will appear. Select your custom Press-Ready PDF setting. If you have not made your custom setting yet, see the Adobe Settings section on this site to create your own Press-Ready PDF settings.

Finishing Up

You will be returned to the folder options dialog box. Your folder will now be in the Path list and should now have two icons next to it on the left hand site. Click the OK button to save your folder settings. Your empty watched folder will now include one .options file and two folders inside. Whenever the Acrobat Distiller application is open, your watched folder will be active.

Print PostScript to Watched Folder

While selecting a file location during the printing of a PostScript file, simply direct your postscript file to the In folder of your custom watched folder (remember to keep the .ps extension in your file name).

Your PostScript file will be processed inside the In folder of your watched folder automatically, with the settings that you previously defined.

Step 2

Out Folder

Once the distilling process is completed, the resulting press-ready PDF and PostScript files will be placed in the Out folder automatically. You will need to retrieve these files from here for safe keeping and additional processing, if needed.
